Waterfront growth beside a national historic castle.
The Area
Colwood combines a fast growing waterfront community at Royal Bay with two of the Capital Region's best known heritage sites, Hatley Castle and Fort Rodd Hill.
Hatley Park National Historic Site, home to Hatley Castle and now Royal Roads University, has appeared in numerous films, and its formal gardens and forested grounds remain open to the public alongside the working university campus.
Royal Bay's master planned waterfront neighbourhood has become one of Greater Victoria's biggest sources of new housing, with parks, schools and shops rising along a coastline that looks out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward the Olympic Mountains.
Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse, BC's oldest lighthouse, guard the entrance to Esquimalt Harbour at Colwood's edge, and Esquimalt Lagoon's long sandy spit gives residents a rare urban bird sanctuary and beach walk close to home.
