Kootenays
Deep powder and a heritage downtown between two mountain ranges.
The Area
Revelstoke sits in the Columbia River valley between the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains, a heritage railway town that has become one of North America's premier destinations for deep snow skiing and heli-skiing.
Revelstoke Mountain Resort holds one of the largest vertical drops of any ski area in North America, and the surrounding backcountry has made the city a global hub for heli-skiing and cat-skiing operations through the winter months.
Grizzly Plaza anchors a walkable, heritage brick downtown that traces back to Revelstoke's founding as a Canadian Pacific Railway divisional point, and the Revelstoke Railway Museum preserves that era in detail. Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks both sit at the edge of town.
The Trans-Canada Highway climbs through Rogers Pass just east of the city, and the Columbia River and Lake Revelstoke give the area strong summer recreation to match its winter reputation. Housing prices have climbed with the resort's profile but remain below Whistler's.
