Sea to Sky & Sunshine Coast
The Sunshine Coast's commercial hub, between the inlet and the strait.
The Area
Sechelt sits on a narrow isthmus between the Strait of Georgia and Sechelt Inlet, the largest town on BC's Sunshine Coast and the administrative centre of the shishalh Nation.
The town occupies one of the narrowest points on the whole coast, with saltwater on both sides, giving Sechelt easy access to both open strait beaches and the calmer, more protected paddling and diving waters of Sechelt Inlet.
As the Sunshine Coast's largest community, Sechelt carries much of the region's shopping, healthcare and services, and Trail Bay's waterfront and the Rockwood Centre's gardens anchor a walkable, low-key downtown.
The Sunshine Coast's ferry-dependent geography, reached via the Langdale terminal near Gibsons, keeps growth slower and prices gentler than the Lower Mainland, and Sechelt continues to draw retirees, artists and remote workers looking for an island-like pace without the ferry to Vancouver Island.
