Okanagan
A heritage lakeside village under Giant's Head Mountain.
The Area
Summerland sits on Okanagan Lake between Peachland and Penticton, a heritage village known for its wineries, a dormant volcanic peak and a working steam railway that still climbs through the surrounding vineyards.
Giant's Head Mountain rises directly above town, its summit road giving one of the best panoramic viewpoints over Okanagan Lake in the entire valley, and the Kettle Valley Steam Railway carries visitors through orchards and over historic trestles just outside town.
Wineries line the benches above Trout Creek and along the lakeshore, part of the same wine trail that runs through Naramata and Penticton, and the Summerland Ornamental Gardens preserve decades of research orchards and display gardens near downtown.
Housing here spans heritage character homes in the village core to newer lakeview properties on the surrounding benches, and Summerland's small town pace, without a highway running straight through downtown, gives it a quieter feel than its Okanagan neighbours.
