Windsor

Windsor sits at the southwestern tip of Ontario, the only major Canadian city that looks north to the United States, with the Detroit skyline directly across the river from its waterfront parks.

Riverside Drive and the continuous waterfront park system give the city an unusually good public edge, with the Detroit skyline as the view and the Ambassador Bridge upstream. Downtown sits behind it around Ouellette Avenue, and Walkerville to the east is the most distinctive neighbourhood, a planned company town built by Hiram Walker with its own heritage main street on Wyandotte.

Olde Sandwich Towne in the west is one of the oldest continuously settled European communities in Ontario and sits beside the University of Windsor. South Windsor and Riverside hold much of the established family housing, and newer development pushes toward Tecumseh and LaSalle.

The automotive sector remains central, with vehicle assembly and a new EV battery plant, alongside the University of Windsor and St Clair College. Housing is among the most affordable of any major Ontario city, and Point Pelee and the Essex County wine region are close by.
